Surrender

When I was growing up, my Dad loved watching cowboy movies like the "Trinity". So, I grew up with an understanding that most if not all action-packed Hollywood westerns had two main themes - good guys verses the bad guys. The good guys catching the bad guys after death defying shoot out. Eventually the bad guys had to surrender themselves and hand over their pistols and return whatever they stole.

But this blog is not about how stereotypical ways of portraying good and evil were often biased in western movies.

If I was to ask you to list some things you would 'SURRENDER' that are so close and dear to you, what would it be? While you are taking a moment to think this through, let us quickly look at what 'surrender' means in the dictionary:

2: an instance of surrendering

At times we are in need of physical rest. You might decide to make your favourite drink, choose a tranquil location to read a novel, and sit in your backyard where birds are chirping and become lost in your own little world. Some may take time off from work and disappear for a few days in total solitude, just to feel the cool summer breeze on your face.

But what are we doing from a spiritual perspective?

If you do a google search on Bible verses that speak about surrender, the results would be many.

There is one particular Bible verse that clearly identifies who we need to 'SURRENDER' to when we are weary and burdened.

Matthew 11:28 says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

Here Jesus is saying 'come to Him'. The part we play in fulfilling this scripture is "come to him".

As a born-again spirit filled Christian, I have often wondered why the word 'surrender' is so important in our walk with the Lord.

When we 'come to Christ", it means we are moving away from something that has held us back in order for us to receive.

My word of encouragement is short and sweet and not complicated. Submitting to God's will with humility, denying ourselves, and surrendering all to follow Christ Jesus will see our lives transformed and our minds renewed.

Hence, only you can answer this final question, "Am I willing to surrender all to Christ Jesus, in order for breakthrough to come?"

It is time to SURRENDER.....
